Making videos

Makeup is new enough to me because I didn't really start wearing makeup regularly until I was in my early 20's, maybe 22 or 23?? I mean I'm only 26, but it's not like I started in my teens. I feel I've learned a lot and I would like to help others learn as well. I wouldn't mind doing weddings and stuff one day, maybe not editorial type shoots. The thing that helped me learn makeup and how to apply it, along with a ton of other beauty related stuff was YouTube. There are so many bright and creative minds that were/are nice enough to share what they know on YouTube and inspire people like me everyday. I already have a full-time job (I am a registered nurse and work at a hospital) so I may not be entirely inspired to follow this dream whole-heartedly, but enough that I felt I have something to contribute in the way of creativity and inspiration also.

So here I am, 2 months and 18 videos later on YouTube. I was catching up my blog and videos today when I happened to notice that I have one dislike on a video viewed by 9 people. I was like "Wow, a like/dislike that's not my mom's (lol)!!" Then it hit me that that will show up as 100% dislike when people see my video :( I got upset for a minute, but then I got over it. I know it's not the greatest video, but I still like it and that's what matters. It is nice if other people like it too, but I have to be happy with what I do first or who else is going to like it??

This hasn't discouraged me in the least :) I only have two subscribers (both are people I know in real life) but that's okay. Nothing comes easy and I am prepared for that. I would love to be as popular as xsparkage, or queenofblending, or julieg713, or petrilude, or as popular as any of the most popular people on youtube. But if I can make a video and have someone say "that really helped me" or "nice makeup" that's good enough for me. That doesn't mean that I won't strive to do thing's better or push my self creativity-wise, because I will.

So I say to you random video disliker: Thank you for your silent encouragement to do better, even if you never say why you don't like my video :) There is always room for improvement!!

My Skincare Routine

This is a constantly evolving process as I am still trying to find what works for me. The steps stay the same, it's just the products that change (unless I really like it/them). Currently I use my Neutragena Makeup Removing Towlettes (love these) to take off my face makeup and L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover to take off my....well, eye makeup, using a cotton round.

I then cleanse my face twice, as suggested by petrilude (check him out on youtube....he is wonderful!!). I use half of what I would use and wash my face twice, first to get rid of excess oil/dirt and second to actually cleanse the skin :)

After this, I pat my skin dry, don't rub just pat. I then apply my toner, which right now is The Body Shop's Seaweed Clarifying Toner and I apply this to my entire face with a cotton round, or a cotton ball.

While my skin is still slightly damp I apply my moisturizer. Since I have oily/combo skin, I apply it sparingly to my face. Applying my moisturizer while my skin is still damp helps it to just glide on and I don't have to tug my skin while I'm spreading it. For moisturizers I switch off between LUSH's Enymion and Clean 'n Clear's Dual Action Moisturizer (I used this in the video). I am also trying out The Body Shop's Vitamin E Eye Cream. I apply a tiny dot of this to each eye and blend in with my ring finger.

If I need to, this is when I apply my Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. Take these steps and apply them to your skin type. Even if you have the same skin type you have to find what works for you. I am still hunting for better stuff, but this will work for now.

Affordable Brushes

You don't have to have the most expensive brushes to be able to do good makeup. I feel I do a pretty good job with my makeup and I use mostly craft store/drugstore brushes. Don't get me wrong, I love my MAC 217, but I love my other brushes too. Here is a breakdown of some of the more affordable brushes I use on a regular basis:

E.L.F. Complexion Brush $3.00
Can be purchased at Target stores or eyeslipsface.com

C406 Lg Duo Face brush $8.49
C408 Chisel Shader brush $3.29 - SOLD OUT as of 5/23/11
C433 Pro Blending Fluff brush $5.49 - SOLD OUT as of 5/23/11
C412 Deluxe Pointed Crease brush $4.95
PP27 Bullet Crease Brush, Pink $2.19

Where I got prices for Loew-Cornell Maxine's Mop brushes: Hofcraft.com
Can be purchased at craft stores, I got mine from Michael's
Loew-Cornell 3/8" Maxine's Mop $2.77
Loew-Cornell 1/2" Maxine's Mop $3.47
Loew-Cornell 1/4" Maxine's Mop $2.28
Loew-Cornell 1/4" Ann's Mini Mop $2.63
Loew-Cornell 7400 1/4" Angular $4.12

Studio Tools Crease Brush $??
Purchased from Wal-Mart, couldn't have been more than $3.00 though...

Hope this helps pick some more affordable brushes that still get the job done :)

Smokey Neutral

Here is the second look dedicated to the Naked Palette from Urban Decay. This time I went for a purple/pink smokey look.

Products:
Eyes -
UDPP
Virgin
Sin
Buck
Toasted
Hustle
Gunmetal
UD 24/7 eyeliner - Zero

Face -
Revlon Colorstay combo/oily - Sand Beige 180
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder - Sand
NYX blush - Mocha

Lips -
Revlon ColorBurst l/g - Sunset Peach

I don't know when I will do another look dedicated to just the NP, but it won't be too long. I reach for this palette daily when doing my work makeup. It really is worth the money though. Until next time :)

~Taime~

Bronze and Brown Neutral Look

Neutral looks are a dime a dozen for me because of my job. I think I could get away with more color, but neutral looks are easy to throw together and don't take much time at all. One of my favorite colors to use for an quick look is MACs Woodwinked. When you apply it it looks like a nice bronze, but it also has flashes a rusty color at a different angle. When you apply just this color to the lid and blend it up in to the crease, it looks like you are wearing two different colors!! :) Here's the breakdown of what I used:

Products:
Eyes -
UDPP
Woodwinked - MAC
Soft Brown - MAC
Browntones duo (darker color) - Maybelline
Vanilla - MAC
Covergirl LashBlast Volume w/p - Very Black

Face -
Revlon Colorstay combo/oily - Sand Beige 180
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder - Sand
NYX blush - Mocha

Lips -
Revlon ColorBurst - Sunset Peach (LOVE this gloss...so everyday wearable)

Another thing I almost keep forgetting to add, I usually never wear eyeliner on my waterline to work, mostly for the simple fact that if it starts to run I won't notice until the end of the shift! So to keep from scaring my patients, I go with out. Takes the look down a notch if you want to do something more dramatic though. I do sometimes tightline my upper lash line though, just pushing a black shadow in between my lashes with the same type of brush I do my brows with.

I'm hoping to do more colorful looks in the future. I figured since the house was almost empty I could film a tutorial. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see. I hope you enjoy the video.

~Taime~

You can see the duochrome effect of Woodwinked in these two pictures:

Here is the tutorial :)

Tiger Lilly Inspired Makeup

Tiger lilies are one of my favorite flowers. Not only are they beautiful, but they just bring back good memories for me. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this beautiful flower on the eyes :)

For my face, I used everything from my previous post "My Face Routine". I filmed both of these videos the same day.

Eyes:
UDPP
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - Milk
Makeup Forever No. 2 (matte yellow)
Makeup Forever No. 18 (matte orange)
Dark matte brown from 88 original palette
Matte black from 88 original palette
MAC - Soft Brown
Matte white from 88 original palette
NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Pigments - Yellow, Orange, Walnut
MAC - Feline Eye Kohl
L'oreal Lineur Intense - Carbon Black
Covergirl Lashblast Waterproof Mascara - Very Black
Ardell - Demi Luvies false eyelashes
Duo adhesive - Dark tone

Lips:
Revlon ColorBurst l/g - Sunset Peach

I "de-potted" my NYX pigments from the little jars they come in to a 5 gram jar. This is easier for me, but also more dangerous because it is easier to spill the pigments EVERYWHERE...lol. To add the NYX Pearl Mania Pigments to the lower lash line, I sprayed some MAC Fix+ into the lid of the pigment, got the brush wet and dipped it gently into the pigment. I then swirled the pigment in the lid to blend the liquid and pigment together. You DO NOT have to use Fix+. You can use water (which I have before and it worked just fine) or eye drops (like Visine or Clear Eyes).

The pigments themselves are nice and shiny alone, but "foiling" them makes the color pop that much more :)

Hope you all enjoy this look. Video will be posted tomorrow :)

In the meantime you can check out my other videos: uniscore1's YouTube

My Face Routine

Here is what I do for my face routine, mostly on a daily basis. If I am going to work, I generally skip the concealer because it tends to come off quicker. I don't know if it is because my skin is oily or what.

First step is I cleanse and moisturize my face. Most of the time I use The Body Shops "Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream". It's a gel consistency and goes on really smooth. I really like the smell of it and it does a pretty good job of keeping my face matte throughout the day.

I was using a primer for a while (Rimmel Fix and Perfect) but I didn't find that it kept my makeup in place any longer than just going straight to my foundation, so I skip that step now. For foundation, I've been using Revlon ColorStay (combo/oily) in 180 Sand Beige. I would say this is a medium coverage foundation, with potential for full coverage. I'm not looking for a completely flawless finish, just more something to even out my skin tone and cover obvious spots. For me, Revlon ColorStay does the trick.

Next step is concealer. I used MUFE Camo Cream Concealer palette (No. 1). I don't use concealer on a daily basis as I stated above. It tends to be a waste of time because I only wear makeup to work and when I'm going out. At any rate, I used some for the video. I use the peach shade under my eyes and I set that with Benefit's Powderflage (using my 224 or C412 brush). I use the darkest of the concealer shades to cover any obvious spots that my foundation didn't cover.

To set my foundation I use Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Sand (0-1 Medium) using my ELF Complexion Brush (I have two, one for powder and one for blush). I just swirl my brush in the powder and blend it around my face and a little down my neck.

For blush I tend to lean towards more natural shades. I've been using Peach from NYX for a while now. Before that I was using Peach Sorbet from Rimmel. I also use MACs Melba. I don't use frosty or shimmery blushes because I don't want to emphasize the appearance of my pores. I apply my blush with my ELF Complexion Brush.

The final step in my face routine is to either use a setting spray or a finishing spray. I have been using a sample size of Urban Decay's All Nighter spray. I'm not sure if I want to spend $29 on the full-size yet. I mostly use that when I go to work. If I don't use that I use MACs Fix+ to decrease the powdery-ness. I also run my other duo fiber brush over my face while it's still damp.

I know my skin isn't perfect, but I'm not looking for a completely flawless look either. The thing that bothers me the most is how uneven my skin tone is. I get pretty red around my nose and cheeks and like I said, Revlon ColorStay evens my skin tone out, and most of the time lasts all night at work.

Hope this helps and let me know what you think! :)

Back again

I've been playing around with makeup more, pulling inspiration from different things and seeing what I can come up with. Recent inspiration has been a rainbow (mostly for my friend :) ), a peacock earring I purchased from Rue21, and my favorite color (green).

I changed the pictures on my flickr account and I'm going to use that to post my FOTD (face of the day), NOTW (nail of the week), and photo inspiration.

Even though I love a good neutral look I'm finding that I also really like color. Makeup is a wonderful accessory that you can either match to whatever else you're wearing or just put on anything you want. Today I matched to my earring, but I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl so for me, makeup is the ultimate accessory...for now ;).

One of my favorite colors is a lime-green from my 88 palette (I got mine from Coastal Scents, but you can get them on ebay as well). It was my first MAKEUP purchase, aside from eyeshadow duos and stuff from wal-mart. I had never bought anything with actual COLOR before. (If you google "88 palette" you can find a ton of pictures). I got the original palette with matte and satin colors in it. That was 2 years ago. I have dents in some colors, a couple are gone (I think one broke :( ), and some I haven't even touched. It was around $30, which is a lot at once, but if you are just beginning with makeup it's a good place to start. If I think about it, I'll post a picture of what mine looks like right now.

I also made a tumblr account ( uniscore1.tumblr.com ) which is where I will be posting quick pictures of my FOTD, NOTW, and also where I will be posting my inspiration pictures. I have just been taking pictures with my iphone for now. We have a really nice Nikon but it's too much to pull out and take pictures JUST for my FOTD and stuff. I'm hopefully going to be getting a smaller camera for my pictures.

I'll shush for now. Til we meet again

Class

I have my second class tomorrow for work and a little test after. Hopefully I get better sleep tonight than I did the other night -__-.

I'm making my online retail therapy wish-list right now :).

Work, work, work...

Three twelves in a row are killer, just in case anybody was wondering (my thousands of followers...lol). Off for the weekend and of course there is a chance of rain. It has been so beautiful the past few days. Hoping to at least get out of the house this weekend and do something fun.

I should've snapped a shot of my pre-14 hour makeup. I wore a olive-gold base, with an olive color on top. A medium brown in the crease and a slightly shimmery plum color in the outer v. I smudged some of the medium brown into the lower lash line with a dark brown eyeliner.

I went to wal-mart after work and I picked up a couple of things: Pssssst dry shampoo (didn't know wal-mart had dry shampoos as I'm sure I scoured the store for them before...), and some lashes that were on sale, Salon Perfect in 21 and Demure.

I'm going to try and stay up all day...lol. We'll see how that goes. Anywho, TTFN! :)

3 then 3

Work next three nights then off for three!! Having six days off really spoiled me, but it wasn't a bad night last night :)

FOTD, NOTD, haul...

Today, our oldest decided that we were going to go out. I had to go to the craft store and return something anyways, so off we went.

FOTD:

Eyes:
UDPP
MAC Satin Taupe es (lid)
MAC Espresso es (crease, brows)
MAC Sketch es (crease, outer V)
MAC Soft Brown (transition color)
MAC Vanilla (highlight)
UD Virgin (inner corner of eye)
MAC Feline eye kohl (upper and lower waterline, lower lash line)
MAC Dark Diversion fl (upper lash line)
Covergirl Lash Blast
Face:
Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer 01
Revlon Colorstay foundation 180 Sand Beige
MUFE camo concealer palette (peach color and darkest concealer)
Benefit Powderflage
Maybelline FitMe Blush Light Mauve (still don't know how I feel about this blush)
Lips:
Revlon Colorburst ls Soft Rose
Rimmel Moisture Renew Summer Angel

I take my pictures with my iphone just because it's more convenient. It would be better if I took them in natural light though...lol. We actually have a really nice camera that I hope to put to good use in the future. I also took these pictures hours after I actually applied the makeup.

I wanted to take a close-up picture of my lashes. They looked AWESOME today!! Just really separated and full looking. I was really happy with them :)

Anywho, back to the outing. The kids and hubby went to the pet store while I returned a brush to the craft store. I was hoping to pick up another couple of 3/8" Maxine's Mops...that, sadly, did not happen :( I left the craft store and nestled in between that and the pet store was a beauty supply store. I was just going to walk by, but I saw the Katy Perry OPI display and couldn't tell from the window if they had Black Shatter or not!! So I had to go in, right?? (That's what I told myself...hehe). No Black Shatter, but I did grab a dry shampoo (TIGI Dirty Secret), and four polishes...CG Knotty, and an unnamed dark blue with shimmer, and OPI Katy Perry The One That Got Away, and Catch Me In Your Net. It was hard to pick which one to paint my nails with, they're all so pretty!!

NOTD: Catch Me In Your Net

It's so much prettier in real life. The glitter in it is phenomenal!! And it's such a nice mixture of blue-green-teal. I love it already :)

I also picked up a book by one of my favorite authors that I thought I already had!!! Jane Feather - All the Queen's Players, I don't know how I never picked it up!!! I have every one of her books. If you love historical romances, you should check her out :)

Okay, one more thing then I'm done...I picked up a new bag for work. I was looking for a bag with pockets all around the outside so I could stick all my work junk in the pockets. I picked one from Mossimo, I think it's supposed to be a beach bag, but those seem to work real good for nurses anywho ;) I already moved my stuff from my old bag into this one and I think I like it. It's also washable, which works really well for me since I work in a hospital (germ central).

As a parting note, I recommend checking out Zero-Projects song "Earthbeat". Temptalia uses this song in a lot of her swatch videos. I don't know what it is, but I love this song :)

Ta ta!! :)

On call...

I got put on call this evening. It's nice to get put on call, but then I've put my makeup on just to get taken off in a few hours...oh well. Here's my makeup for the day anyways :)

The photos aren't the greatest, but I just decided to post this on a whim (since this is a semi-random blog...lol) I used Urban Decay's "Naked Palette". It's mostly a re-creation of xsparkage's Sweet Girl White Swan Look sans glitter. I did the same colors on my lid, but a little different on the lower lash line:
Eyes:
Naked
Buck
Darkhorse
Whiskey 24/7 el
Covergirl Lashblast wp mascara
MAC Espresso es (brows)
Face:
Revlon Colorstay Foundation 180 Sand beige
Maybelline Fit Me Blush Light Mauve
MUFE camo concealer palette No. 1

Until next time :)

Here we go again...

This blog will probably be related to lots of randomness for now, anything that catches my interest.
